McGrath & Associates has completed a $10.6 million project in St. Louis, Missouri. The project was a 9,000 square foot hospital utility plant expansion. Included were new mechanical, electrical and generator rooms constructed in existing shell space. Additionally, the existing utility space was upgraded to include new mechanical, electrical and plumbing infrastructure. The project consisted of a new boiler system, new chilled water system and electrical infrastructure upgrades. A unique aspect of this project was that it was phased to keep the existing hospital in use during construction with only stoppage for tie-ins. Temporary systems for electrical and chilled water were setup to reduce downtime. The construction was also a challenge because the entire site contains rock at approximately 6” below grade.

McGrath performed as both construction manager and general contractor. McGrath also self-performed some of the concrete work using their in-house concrete division. McGrath partnered with Murphy and Corrigan for mechanical and plumbing scope of work.

You can take a virtual tour of the Hospital Utility Plant here.
